Crossroads - Acrylic on canvas, 24 x 36 Inches

I live in the world’s most traffic-congested city. One of those days, I got jammed at a traffic signal. Seconds passed, minutes passed but did not move an inch. I knew where I wanted to head but was uncertain which road to take. The plan was to stop at a café, shop at the newly opened store, visit a friend and then head home to watch my favorite sitcom. I noticed a few cars behind me diverting and taking a left because Google Maps showed us that path was relatively flowing. If I take a left, I will miss the café, the store, and my friend’s place. To save a few minutes, I would be losing little pleasures in life. It got me thinking. Isn’t it the same as my big picture life? At the crossroads? Sometimes it is frustrating coping with situations, so we avoid it. We are constantly looking for shortcuts to success. In the end, only to realize what we missed. Joy in everyday little things. I don’t want any regrets.

When I face crossroads next time, I will think it through. Choose the path and not let the path choose me! This short episode happened to be an inspiration for this painting.
